Hi everyone. Here's what we've been up to at Necessary Fiction this week:
Grace Novarr returned to our pages, reviewing Élisabeth by Éric Rohmer, translated by Aaron Kerner (McNally Editions).
And we were honored to publish "i go apple picking.", a debut story by Meg White.
Then in research notes, past contributor Christopher Linforth wrote about his collection Directory, available from Indirect Books.
Elsewhere, our friends at Barrelhouse will hold their annual Conversations & Connections conference in Washington, DC on April 24, 2027, and registration is open now. This is always an inspiring and enjoyable day and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Finally, a bittersweet announcement that our longtime fiction editor Lacey Dunham is stepping away from the role and has shared some reflections on the site. I can't say enough about what a pleasure and privilege it has been to work closely together for nearly a decade (longer, in fact, if you count our first work together when she was a publicist representing my first book), and to watch her own writing gain more recognition and success at the same time. I'm deeply grateful for her commitment to supporting writers and to creating a space for their stories with a steady hand and a generous spirit. I look forward to reading her forthcoming second novel, and to the next time we're in the same city at the same time to go walking and birding together.
We'll have an update soon about the next fiction editor, but before that I'm glad for this opportunity to thank and acknowledge Lacey. For the time being I'm reading submissions and editing myself (which is why things have been a bit slower than usual).
Thanks for reading,
Steve Himmer |
