Happy Saturday, all. I hope your week has been good.
On Monday, Martin Horn reviewed Porthole by Joanna Howard (McSweeney's Publishing). This is Martin's first time writing for us and we're excited to share his work, while Joanna recently shared some research notes about Porthole.
And our featured story, the next in our summer flash fiction series, was "Evasion" Ciera McElroy, another writer whose work we're pleased to share for the first time.
Elsewhere, the podcast I have been listening to longer than any other, Book Fight, is rapidly approaching its final episode. The penultimate is a wonderful conversation with Elisa Gabbert and I highly recommend listening. I'm really going to miss Book Fight, which I have listened to over the years while struggling to sleep and while walking my dogs and on planes and trains at home and abroad.
I'm grateful to Mike Ingram and Tom McAllister for bringing so much thought and laughter into my life over the last thirteen years, and I hope to convince them to at least come back for their special holiday episodes which are as much a part of my family traditions now as the oatmeal stuffing my great-grandmother insisted on serving every year even though it was like a bowl of moist birdseed and nobody ate it and yet after she passed away people kept making it. If it can come back to me every year, surely Mike and Tom can?
Thanks for reading,
Steve Himmer
