Hi folks. Here's what's new at Necessary Fiction this week:

Krista Timeus Cerezo joined us to review The Past Pursues Us Like Detectives, Debt Collectors, Thieves by Juan Pablo Villalobos, translated by Daniel Hahn for And Other Stories.

This week's featured story was "Annie & I" by Kyler Akagi, a writer we're pleased to have in our pages for the first time.

Elsewhere, Crossroads Folk Horror, a recently launched zine we're enjoying, is currently accepting submissions for their upcoming third issue on the theme "This Haunted Landscape." And StoryQuarterly opens today to submissions for their upcoming issue 59.

Off the page, via the always excellent Caught By The River,

The Ecological Listening Project, an initiative of River Margin, is looking for audio submissions of recordings from around the world capturing how the natural environment sounds where you are — it could be frogs calling, a stream running, birdsong, wind, insects, all specific to your location.

And coming up on August 29, a week from today, will be Play Music On The Porch Day which seems to me a very worthwhile endeavor and I just happen to have a porch and a few instruments I can play to varying degrees of musicality, so you know where to find me (as long as I get the day's quota of novel revisions done first!).

Finally, our fiction editor Lacey Dunham will offer a number of classes on gothic and horror fiction this fall, about which you'll find more details here.
