Wrap up warm, little doves. The end of the month has come.
I really just want to take one last, short post to thank everyone who has been involved in this September Girl Lit project:
Kristen Stone
Kirsty Logan
Chris Rice
Laura Tansley
Hilary Smith
Ashley Ford
And thank you to all authors who have been brave enough to write Girl Lit. This month has seen reasons to why women and girls’ voices are important to share and champion and critique as much as possible. Without flag-waving, it seems, there are still folk around who believe that there are no interesting women writers. That their voices, techniques, perspectives do not matter.
I want to thank every woman who has written, roomless or not, beloved or loathed. Loathesome, petty, magnificient, prim, outdoorsy, maligned. Once again – I want to say, I have not read you enough, I have not got enough of you. I hope I’ve introduced a few names you might not have heard, though I have of course, not written all I should have, not spoken enough. It’s time for me to step aside and let others speak.
A last thank you to Steve Himmer and Michelle Bailat-Jones for inviting me to do this and for their support and hard work.
An announcement too: I’m very pleased to say I shall be making my way to Canada, to take part in an artists’ mountain residency at the Banff Centre, beginning in November. I firmly believe my residency here has brought me a new focus (and may even have aided in my being chosen?) and expect that the months ahead will be wildly productive.
Thank you, doves. Thank you, Necessary Fiction.
