Necessary Fiction
Doing our best since 2009

Here we are again! I hope you've all had a good week.

February is behind us and that means we've published the fourth and final story in our "leap" series. That story is "Root, Stem, Branch, Bud" by Lindz McLeod. We're very pleased to share Lindz' work for the first time.

The week also saw Carl Lavigne interview Holly M. Wendt about their recent novel Heading North. Earlier in the month, Renée E. D’Aoust reviewed Heading North in our pages.

Speaking of book reviews, this week Lisa Slage Robinson wrote about Rage & Other Cages by Aimee LaBrie. You can read Lisa's previous reviews for us here.

Finally, our Translation Notes series returned this week, with Jamie Richards introducing "The Weakness of Commas," an essay by Marosia Castaldi whose novel The Hunger of Women was recently published in Jamie's translation.

If you're planning to send any fiction for consideration, don't forget that we will be closing to regular submissions on March 15, and opening to submissions for our summer flash fiction series.

And last but not least, Ross McMeekin's story collection Below The Falls will be published by Thirty West later this month and is available for preorder now. We published his story "T-Minus" way back in 2011.

Thanks for reading,
Steve Himmer
