A Big Blue Round Blur of A Month

Well, shucks, this month raced by and I thoroughly enjoyed being the W-I-R for Necessary Fiction.

I want to thank Steve Himmer for being a super host and fixer of all things technical AND for being the author of The Bee-Loud Glade, a novel I continue to cherish and mention in classes. And, a huge thank you to the authors here I had the fortune to yack about and publish.

This was good. I read many pieces, novels, interviews and reviews while studying earth-environmental-planet fiction. I learned about whaling, logging, plastic, and fertility — the future, the past, the right-now-what-the-heck-are-we-doing.

Next month is National Novel Writing Month — a task you and I have until midnight to decide whether or not to participate in. Should I or shouldn’t I write another novel? Ah, well, a few more long hours to ponder, at least on this coast.

On my hike this morning, I saw a buck and a doe drinking from the creek. I recorded a hawk on my cell phone who sounded like a chicken. A squeaking from beneath a hazelnut tree caught my attention and beneath the leaves I unearthed a salamander who looked me right in the eye. It was a bit of an accusatory look. I didn’t get his picture or a recording.

Goodnight,

Stefanie
