New Book Reviews Editor
Though Necessary Fiction focuses on publishing short fiction, of course we also love books. So we are pleased to announce that with the arrival of the new year we will add book reviews to the site. To that end, past contributor — and future Writer In Residence — Michelle Bailat-Jones has joined NF as book reviews editor. Michelle’s critical eye is one I trust immensely; she’s one of two first readers I go to with my own work, and she’s a terrific writer herself — check out this excerpt from her novel Fog Island Mountains (editors, it’s available!). She’s also a translator, and will bring that perspective to our reviews section as we include new translations alongside fiction written in English. She’s written reviews for The Quarterly Conversation, Cerise Press, and other publications, and her fiction and translations have appeared or are forthcoming in Fogged Clarity, Ascent, and The Kenyon Review.
We’ll have more specific information soon, about how to have your books considered for review, and about querying Michelle if you’re interested in contributing your own reviews. But for now, please join me in welcoming her aboard.
