Happy Saturday, friends. I hope you've had a good week.
Lori D'Angelo reviewed First Law of Holes by Meg Pokrass, recently published by Dzanc Books. This is Lori's first appearance in our pages, but we've published three of Meg's stories in the past: "In This Light" (2010), "Too Easy To Touch" (2015), and "The First Law of Holes" (2018).
Lori's own story collection, The Monsters Are Here, is forthcoming from ELJ Editions next month.
This week's featured story was "Tiny Little Vultures," a debut fiction publication by Jesse Motte. It's always an honor and a privilege to first share a writer's work and we're glad Jesse trusted us with this story.
And on Friday K.E. Semmel shared some research notes for The Book of Losman, available this coming Tuesday from SFWP. We've previously shared notes on books by Simon Frueland he translated from Danish, and we're glad to have K.E. back.
Congratulations to contributor Lindz McLeod ("Root, Stem, Branch, Bud") whose novella Sunbathers was published earlier this month by Hedone Books.
Finally, three things I recommend reading or listening to this weekend:
- "How To Keep Going When Your Life Implodes," an interview with John Cotter, author of the memoir Losing Music, for Jessica Ordell's newsletter Who We Are To Each Other
- "The Essay As Realm" by poet and essayist (and NF contributor) Elisa Gabbert at Georgia Review
- And From BBC Radio4, Jon McGregor's series "Still Lives," five short stories considering stillness.
Thanks for reading,
